CS186DV in 1.5 cu. ft. ported, 42 Hz box @ 1200 w. (Car.) There are not many 18’s that will work in a 1.5 cu. ft. ported box, much less “knock your block off” in such a box. But, this one will! You may have to get pretty creative to make a 1.5 cu. ft. box this “monster” will fit into, though. The port will be a bit of a trick, too: A 6” I.D. port, 24 5/8” long will work; but a 7” I.D. port* 34.5” long will be better. Obviously, the port will have to be mostly external to the box, but still allow for whatever space the port takes up in the box, if any. Finally, for full power handling, use a steep HP filter @ 25 Hz. Just imagine your CUV with 8 of these babies and amps to power them in there – you didn’t really buy it for the gas mileage anyway, right?
*An equivalent rectangular or square port will have a cross-sectional area of 38.5 sq. inches, and the same 34.5” length. If rectangular, make the cross-section no more than a 4:1 shape, which comes out to 12” wide and 3.21” high. 10” wide and 3.85” high is better. In general, the more square or circular, and the less narrow the port, the better.
